Skateboard wheels have the biggest impact on speed performance. Smaller wheels (below 53mm) are lighter and have a lower centre of gravity which can be better for technical skateboarding. Larger wheels are faster, last longer, can ride over more stuff more easily but suffer from being heavier and having a higher centre of gravity. Wheels come in different hardnesses. This is measured using the Durometer scale. A lower durometer number (<90a) equals a softer wheel better suited for transportation or for cruising. Harder wheels with a higher durometer number (>97a) are faster on smooth surfaces and allow the ability to slide making many tricks easier.
